Check PC
I was give task to check PC verifying it is in good condition whether it can on and shut down properly. If everything is fine, there is display in screen, all new hardware is detected and working as it should be, I will check its operating system and test normal software whether the performance is great or slow. The computer that has no problem will no restart or will burden the user doing normal and important tasks.
Test PC components
Secondly, my second task is testing hardware components one by one according to which hardware is suspected for broken down or already not working properly. Sometimes, the drivers are not installed correctly, corrupted or being disabled by some bug or user itself. Therefore, we must check one by one, looking for all drivers working properly and doesn’t cause conflict or problems to other components inside the computer. If the faulty computer or laptop is still in warranty, we will kindly send it to nearest service centres for repairing, replacing faulty hardware or software installation which is from original manufacturer.
Install Software and Drivers
Thirdly, I will install software which is normally used by user which is a media player which is one of the multimedia software, a CD/DVD burning utility, internet browsers, office productivity software, CAD software and antivirus. I also will install other software that requested by customers using removable drive such as CD/DVDs, USB flash drive or external hard disk. I will download software from the internet as a precaution from avoiding malware from customer’s computer infecting my files and installer in my removable medias.
Send item to customer
Next, my task is sending item for customer that ordered it. I usually send it with my colleague, Danny. When the item arrived from the supplier, the salesperson will check whether the package is in good condition and the item received is same as listed in the purchase order. When everything is fine, the salesperson will print out delivery orders or invoices. We will bring the item that they order together with the delivery order or invoices. We will get the signature and company chop as approval by person in charge that orders the item or the products. I also set up their new computer at their offices.
Install and Add new hardware
Besides that, I also install or add new hardware that required by customer. I turn off the computer and install the hardware such as RAM, PCIe card, PCIe USB card and many more. After that, I boot up Windows and check if it can start up normally. When everything is working as it should, I will install drivers and restart the computer. Mainly, user will install new hardware as backup for other hardware, upgrade for performance, or replacing broken hardware components that connect be used anymore.

In addition, operating system must be installed in each computer as medium for user interacting for with hardware. We usually installed Windows according existence of driver, user requirement and specification required for their usage. We will usually installed Windows 7 because it is more stable and all software installed is compatible with it and almost meets all user requirements for everyday usage such as business and home user purposes. We will install 32 bit version for computer that has RAM below 3GB and less than that and 64 bit version for more than 3GB of RAM.
Clean PC
Furthermore, cleaning PC is important as it must not overheat and damage other hardware inside it. I usually clean all components inside the desktop computer using vacuum cleaner, dust blower and brush. The dust and debris must be removing inside the computer as a precaution from computer from overheating and shut down unexpectedly. A dusty CPU fan will spin slower when the dust is accumulating the fan blades. When there is not enough cool air transferred to the processor that heats up when the computer is in use, the heat will not dissipate and causing overheating.
Backup Data and Recovery
On top of that, I sometimes backup customer data in removable media such as USB flash drive and external hard disk. The customer’s data are important because those data which are documents, spread sheets and PowerPoint presentation and emails are used for their work.
Networking
Lastly, I also help other technicians set up their networking at customer’s office. I enable files and printer sharing so that certain user can use specific files and printers. I also help technician when they go out network cabling such as installing trunking in wall and make UTP cables.
