Tips and Tricks Series - Change CMOS Battery

1. A Checksum Error will appear in POST or the date and time in Windows always changing even tough user has changed to real time for many times.
2. Off the computer and unplug all power cables and VGA cables. Open casing.
3. Look for CMOS battery and remove it.
4. See the type of battery, common CMOS battery is CR2032 type.
5. Look for new CMOS battery with CR2032 type and place it again in the motherboard.
6. On the computer and change the time and date in the BIOS by pressing ESC, DEL depending on the motherboard manufacturer. If we don’t want to change in the BIOS, we can change it at Windows by clicking the date and time at taskbar.
7. Click Change date and time settings. Choose correct date and change the time.
8. We can also choose correct time zone which is UTC+8:00 Kuala Lumpur, Singapore.
9. Click Apply and OK. Wait for more than ten minutes.
10. Restart the computer and see if then time and day’s changes. If problem is still occurs. We must change the motherboard if customer wanted it.
